Look, Australia is a hidden gem,
particularly for international investors,

and I think for a lot of internationals,
it's a long way to come, and Australians

are very used to getting onto two
planes to get to anywhere, but for,

internationals, it does take a little
while to get your head around how far away

it is, but it's definitely worth the trip.

Australia's built on, has got some
very strong economic and market

fundamentals and macro fundamentals.

But for, and from a private
capital point of view there's a

lot of opportunity, particularly
in, for, in the middle market.

And for tech investors Australia
punches well above its weight.

The superannuation funds in Australia,
we've seen a lot of consolidation in

the industry over the last few years.

And what that's led to
is some very large funds.

That increasingly having to deploy
capital offshore in order to achieve

that portfolio diversification.

{{00:01:25}}
It has meant, and it's opened up
some opportunities, particularly in

private equity and venture capital.

The other factor that's involved
there is that there's some regulatory

{{00:01:34}}
constraints that, and for asset classes
like PE and VC, which are relatively

{{00:01:38}}
illiquid long term and, from a fee
point of view, quite expensive.

It's meant that there is a, an opportunity
for, international investors to step in.

So for international, smaller
pension funds, endowments family

{{00:01:51}}
offices, there's actually quite
a lot of opportunity, I think.

for them to come in and have
a good look at Australia.

One of the great things about
Australia's economy and for private

capital investment opportunities is
that it is an economy wide opportunity.

So Australia is relatively well known
internationally for mining and resources,

but actually when you look at share of
output from a gross value added basis,

business services occupies the top spot.

So what does that mean for PA and
VC investors is that there's a range

of opportunities, whether it's in
healthcare, the care economy, there's

some enormous capital requirements for
aged care, child care, disability care.

The energy transition presents a lot
of opportunity, particularly as Once

infrastructure investment starts to
step in and create opportunities,

whether it's in enabling technologies
or in creating like in local content

meeting local content requirements.

Australia has about 67, 000 privately
held companies with 20 employees or more.

That's probably a
surprisingly large number.

And not all of those opportunities are
going, not all those businesses are

going to be right for, private equity
or for venture capital investors.

But what you'll see in that population
are a lot of entrepreneurs now

starting to head towards retirement.

A lot of founder led businesses
that are looking for private capital

investment, either to satisfy some
growth objectives, or possibly to

provide some succession pathways.

And so I think we'll see quite a lot
of opportunities for deploying capital,

particularly in the middle market sector.

That's not to say that there aren't
opportunities in larger buyout I think

we'll see, particularly as deal flow
starts to return that in larger buyout

you'll see the possibility for corporate
carve outs you'll see a continuation of

the trend of public to private as well.
