Dr Alex Harrison
Senior Vetenarian at Eastside Vets

Alex Harrison is Australia's first profoundly deaf veterinarian, graduating from Murdoch University in 2000. He has diverse experience working in academia, corporate small animal practice, and spent 10 years as a practice owner in a large group of veterinary hospitals in Adelaide before suffering professional burnout and needing to step away to spend more time with his family. He is passionate about disability advocacy, inclusive design and assistive technology. He is on the board of The Veterinary Kaleidoscope, a not-for-profit advocacy group that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in the veterinary profession, including for LGBTQI+, indigenous vets, and those with disability or neurodiversity. He also mentors young vets finding their way in a demanding profession, which is sometimes unaware of it's own biases and how that contributes to poor mental health and the high suicide rate in veterinarians.
