Head of Alternative Credit at Pension Protection Fund
Sanjay Mistry is the Head of Alternative Credit at the PPF and currently the interim Head of Alternatives. As a senior portfolio manager with almost 25 years investment experience, he is responsible for setting the strategy and all investments within a portfolio, spanning all sub-investment grade credit markets. His mandate covers performing/non-performing, long/short, liquid/illiquid assets in corporate markets and asset backed sectors including infrastructure debt and real estate debt. In this role Sanjay has expanded the primary, secondary and co-investing/direct investing he was undertaking at Mercer, while also restructuring the Alternative Credit portfolio. Sanjay sits on a number of LP Advisory Boards on behalf of the PPF and has established a number of PPF specific vehicles. Soon after joining the PPF, as the senior team member in Alternatives, he worked with the CIO to redesign and expand the Alternatives team to its current form. Prior to joining the PPF Sanjay was a senior member of Mercer Alternatives (fka Mercer Private Markets, “MPM”), a specialist unit within Mercer's Wealth business and had been leading MPM’s efforts in the area of private debt since 2009, sitting on the MPM Investment Committee. At Mercer he invested in private debt and private equity on a primary, secondary and co-investment basis on behalf of MPM’s discretionary funds and delegated clients as well as advising across the full range of private market investment activities for MPM’s advisory clients. Over the years he has worked with numerous multi $bn institutional investors, globally, building their private markets allocations, assisting with fund selection, portfolio construction and implementation of such investments and has produced numerous white papers on private markets. Sanjay began his career with Eagle Star Life Assurance and graduated from City University with a first-class honours Bachelor of Science in actuarial science. He is a member of the Institute of Actuaries and holds the IMC.
