China VC: Finding a Strong Signal Amidst a Lot of Noise – A Fireside Chat with Qiming Leadership

Don Pascal is the Founder and Managing Partner of Moonrise Capital, a global venture capital solutions provider. Prior to forming Moonrise Capital, Mr. Pascal served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Commonfund Capital Inc. ("CCI"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Commonfund. Mr. Pascal also served on the CCI Investment Committee. From 1998 to 2016, Mr. Pascal led or co-led the most recent eight CCI venture capital programs and performed work on manager sourcing, manager due diligence and portfolio construction. Mr. Pascal played a key role in the CCI venture program evolution from a domestic to global focus and sponsored the opening of CCI's Beijing, China office. Prior to joining CCI, Mr. Pascal worked from 1985 to1998 in a series of investment vehicles sponsored by Louis Marx, Jr.. Mr. Pascal's earlier experience includes analyst positions at Warburg Pincus and Strategic Planning Associates. Mr. Pascal graduated with a B.S.E. from Princeton University in 1981.

Mr. Duane Kuang is a Founding Managing Partner of Qiming Venture Partners and a member of the Investment Committee. Duane has over 30 years of operational and investment experience, starting his venture capital career in 1999.
Duane's areas of investment include Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Blockchain. Some of his prior investments include Roborock (SHSE:688169), WeRide, UBTech, Unisound, Hesai Technology (NASDAQ:HSAI), Intelligent Automation, Chaitin, Qiniu Cloud, etc. Duane is the Chairman of the China Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) and a member of the VC committee of AMAC.
Duane has been recognized by the Forbes Global 100 VC Midas List in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Prior to founding Qiming, Duane was the Director of Intel Capital China where he led the company’s strategic investment activities. Before joining Intel, Duane had worked at Cisco Systems in China for five years, holding various senior management positions.
Duane started his career in Silicon Valley as a software engineer and later entered into management role in the digital communications field.
Duane is born in Guangzhou, China and educated in the U.S. Duane holds an MBA degree from the University of California at Berkeley, a Master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from California State University in San Francisco.

Mr. William Hu is a Managing Partner of Qiming Venture Partners. Currently, William co-leads Qiming's investments in the healthcare sector.
Since his joining in 2006, William has been instrumental in building Qiming's healthcare practice, having closely involved in the development of over 60 startups, many of which have become leading players in their respective areas.
