have is the ability to partner and collaborate.

Partnering involves understanding that the partner organizations
or different parts of the organization that you're in

collaborating is really about understanding the outcomes that
you want for the customers and how you bring that all together.

And in today's world, it's not enough to be an entrepreneur alone.

Innovation is ingrained in the human mindset and that's
something that's really, really important to remember.

Often in organizations, we can be very logical, but actually
innovation is about releasing the creative mind and it's about

embedding that organizationally so that, you know, having
that sustainable innovation it's really about as a leadership

group, working on embedding it into the organizational DNA.

So it never centers around one person.

It's eventually part of the culture strategy and innovation
positions but actually it's the culture that wins.

Again no matter the breadth, the depth, the size of
your organization, getting that right environment

is essential and in today's world post COVID.

It's really around the strength of the
virtual table that innovation happens.

So unleashing the creative mind requires that correct environment
requires everybody to be thinking a little bit differently

and knowing that it's safe to innovate and it's safe to have
different types of conversations, but also it's exciting.

It's creative.

It's starting to think and reimagine the world in a different way.

There are five key tenants around the innovation environment.

Innovation is, is part of the everyday fabric.

It's about encouraging that opening up and putting together
different combinations of folks and teams together.

So they are able to innovate, are able to look at the
world in a slightly different way and come up with

interesting ways to meet all of those customer needs.

Particularly in a global organization,
making sure that we have guided empowerment.

The fact that local teams can innovate within that particular
areas, knowing what the boundaries are, but also navigating they're

safe to innovate and they can create that value in different ways.

It doesn't have to be the traditional model.

{{00:03:20}}
I think first of all creativity and
innovation starts with trust and freedom.

It's setting up a space in which people can trust each
other to try things that might sound silly or stupid,

{{00:03:33}}
but actually turned into being incredible ideas and
that I inspire and bring in others to inspire people.

I think, you know, we don't ask a
computer for output till we give it input.

So creativity comes from an innovation being out in the world
with our atennas and seeing, touching, feeling everything and then

{{00:03:53}}
putting it through our own unique filters to come up with a new
idea but if you don't allow people to get out in the world and to

be inspired by everything, you can't expect people to be innovative.

So I think I'm really trying to give the team the gift of inspiration,
freedom, time to play are some of the things that I do with the team.

We really encourage people to.

I like to say we're kind of the, our
organizations where the rubber meets the blue sky.

Yeah.

{{00:04:23}}
Our core product is attire, but it's part of an ecosystem.

So what if it could do this?

What if it could do that?

And I think it's important not to lose sight of the fact
that as a company, Goodyear has always been innovative.

There are only a few tires that are on the
moon and they all say Goodyear on them.

Wow.

{{00:04:40}}
And we've looked and we've played what if with that?

{{00:04:42}}
And we said, okay, well, what are the terrestrial applications?

{{00:04:45}}
What could we do with that technology on earth?

{{00:04:47}}
We have groups who look at what a conventional tire is made
of and said, well, what if we could make it be more system?

{{00:04:52}}
What if we could replace some of the petroleum oils
would say soils and we've been able to do that.

{{00:04:57}}
We actually released a tire of this year beginning of this year that
has soils instead of petroleum oils when I was in the tread compound.

And now we're saying, okay, well,
what if we could do it in other parts?

{{00:05:07}}
Creativity through diversity.

{{00:05:08}}
It's something that HSBC we're very passionate about.

{{00:05:12}}
I'm very much passionate about the diversity agenda,
but also because companies that really invest

{{00:05:17}}
in diversity are the ones that drive that value.

{{00:05:21}}
And those companies are the ones that are really innovate.

{{00:05:23}}
So let's have a look at what that means.

So if we take our staff base and our colleagues around the
organization, we really try and build a cultural mix taking

{{00:05:34}}
into account folks from different backgrounds, all with
different skills that really add value to the conversation.

{{00:05:41}}
And in one of my organizations, I do remember
we did things a little bit differently.

{{00:05:46}}
So a practical example, we were looking at a mobile application.

{{00:05:52}}
And everybody was looking at it from the adult points
of view, but actually some of our customers were

{{00:05:58}}
children and they wanted to be able to click on and
find that application journey easy and straightforward.

{{00:06:05}}
So rather than go.

{{00:06:06}}
Traditional set of folks that we would talk to.

{{00:06:09}}
We started to innovate around who we talk to and why and
we actually brought some children into the organization

{{00:06:14}}
to work through the intuitive journey on the app.

We learned so much through that whole conversation
and again, it was a different perspective.

It was including folks that really understood the
outcome, but you know, children, it's a natural mindset.

It's something as adults we often forget, but actually that childlike
mindset can often be at the heart of an innovation conversation.

You can't be trying to figure out new ways of
doing things for large markets without having a

{{00:06:46}}
diversity of opinions and a diversity of views.

I'm thrilled with the approach that Goodyear takes to diversity.

We have support groups for minority, various minorities.

{{00:06:56}}
But for me, what's even more important is when I'm walking around
in the hall, I'll I'll hear different conversations in different

{{00:07:02}}
languages and you know, just totally different ways of, of
dressing and acting 120 year old, old line manufacturing company

{{00:07:12}}
based in the Midwest would be on the Vanguard of LGBTQ issues.

{{00:07:16}}
And yet we are wow.

{{00:07:17}}
And it's just, it's a joy to, to be walking around
with a hugely diverse group of people and know that

{{00:07:25}}
we're getting all kinds of different perspectives.

{{00:07:28}}
But the other key element is around decision clarity.

{{00:07:31}}
So knowing who can make those decisions, knowing
we've got an empowered environment having that go-to

{{00:07:37}}
so we know who's going to make that final call.

If we've got lots and lots of innovation
ideas how are we going to draw them together?

{{00:07:44}}
And that's really about particularly in larger organizations.

{{00:07:48}}
Making sure that decision clarity's there.

{{00:07:50}}
Who, what, when I don't need to wait for a long time
to decision, make it can be something that just is part

{{00:07:56}}
of day-to-day life and last, but certainly not least.

We've talked about this a few times collaboration mindset.

{{00:08:03}}
It's easy to say collaboration, but again, It's doing that across
the organization, working with our partners and our key vendors

{{00:08:11}}
to collaborate in really new and innovative ways is so important.

It's by bringing together the knowledge of all the different
technologies that we have our understanding of our customers

{{00:08:22}}
and creating those conversations in slightly different and more
strategic ways really does open up that innovation environment.

So no one of these factors creates innovation
environment and it doesn't happen overnight, but

{{00:08:37}}
certainly it's something that's really, really key.

And if the leadership group is bought into it, it starts to become
part of everyday life through our conversations, through what

we reward and through the types of things that we deliver into
the marketplace, we become known for that particular set, just

{{00:08:53}}
remember innovate to commercialize rather than innovate to innovate.

Remember all organizations want that courageous entrepreneur,
someone who can bring that innovation value, collaborate and have

{{00:09:08}}
those creative conversations but also to deliver the results.

And just remember in terms of any innovation conversation, anyone
can be innovative get involved, get involved in your organization,

get involved and learn find out about what your customers need
and start to have some of those interesting conversations.
