Alan is an international Actuary and Non-Executive Director with over 30 years’ executive experience in the Insurance Industry up to Finance Director level, and as a Partner in a major international consulting firm. His main functional areas of expertise are Longevity Risk measurement and mitigation, Capital Management, Strategy, and Mergers & Acquisitions.

Having left his native Scotland 25 years ago he now maintains a base there and in Amsterdam. Apart from his native language of English he has worked in Dutch and Spanish and speaks conversational French.

Alan is an active volunteer for the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries. In 2016 he was elected as a member of its Council and following re-election in 2019 was also appointed as a member of the Management Board. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the CMI, and the Longevity Risk Transfer Working Party of the Dutch Association of Insurers.

Experienced Chief Risk Officer. More than 20 years in financial institutions such as banks (Citibank, Bank Handlowy, AIG Bank, NatWest), insurance companies (Nordea, PKO Insurance, MetLife), investment & pension funds as well as in consulting (Deloitte). Currently manages Risk Appetite in NatWest Markets. Implemented risk strategies, practical solutions that ensure holistic risk management and expected quality of data; served as chairman of ALM and Risk Committees. Keynote speaker and panelist during various conferences in Europe and US. Certificated Member of ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and Financial Risk Manager awarded by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. MSc in Economics by Warsaw University.

Christian Dahmen is Chief Risk Officer and member of the Board of Management of NewRe, a leading Swiss reinsurer and part of Munich Re Group. In this role, Christian oversees and ensures adequate risk management for a reinsurance portfolio spanning life and p&c reinsurance, including derivative and weather reinsurance business. With over 15 years of risk management experience in consulting and insurance and 6 years at the helm of risk management organizations, Christian has seen the changes to the risk landscape and shaped the CRO agenda accordingly. In recognition of these, Christian was highly commended as “CRO of the year” by InsuranceERM in 2021. Christian received a PhD in Physics from University of Technology in Aachen, Germany and a MSc in Mathematical Finance from the University of Oxford.
