The rail system is complex and relies upon successful interactions between and amongst humans and technologies to achieve various outcomes including safety, efficiency, and reliability. This presentation will discuss how human factors principles, embedded within systems thinking frameworks, can assist to optimise these outcomes across the system lifecycle. Examples from areas such as signalling, level crossings and passenger experience will be used to illustrate key points.
