So Australia is wanting to

be a global leader in, the

emerging hydrogen industry.

If we are to achieve that,

we need the people on the

{{00:00:36}}
ground with the right skills,

{{00:00:37}}
with the right education and

{{00:00:39}}
training, to enable this.

Hydrogen has a whole supply

{{00:00:42}}
chain associated with it.

{{00:00:44}}
So the levels of education

{{00:00:46}}
and skilling that are

{{00:00:46}}
required are quite extensive.

What we're finding really is.

{{00:00:51}}
That it's not so much the

{{00:00:53}}
development of new training

{{00:00:54}}
so much, but really it's

{{00:00:55}}
about how can we be, adding

{{00:00:58}}
on to re-skilling, retraining,

{{00:01:00}}
transitioning those that are

{{00:01:02}}
already in kind of partnering

{{00:01:03}}
fields, if you like, to kind

{{00:01:05}}
of create the workforce that

{{00:01:06}}
we need,  to ensure that

{{00:01:08}}
hydrogen becomes what it is

{{00:01:10}}
that we all need it to do.

At Swinburn, we led some

{{00:01:13}}
research, with industry

{{00:01:15}}
to try and actually

{{00:01:16}}
understand what is the

{{00:01:18}}
skill demand going to be.

What does the education

{{00:01:22}}
and training landscape need

{{00:01:23}}
to look like in order to

{{00:01:24}}
ensure that we have the

{{00:01:26}}
workforce that's required?

{{00:01:27}}
So in this piece of research,

{{00:01:29}}
that we did, we found that

{{00:01:31}}
there are most, certainly

{{00:01:32}}
some, GAPS if you like

{{00:01:34}}
in our current training

{{00:01:35}}
landscape, electrolyzers,

{{00:01:39}}
fuel cells, hydrogen storage,

{{00:01:41}}
refueling stations, how is

{{00:01:44}}
it that we have people, or

{{00:01:45}}
how can we train people,

{{00:01:47}}
across each of these different

{{00:01:48}}
elements of the supply

{{00:01:50}}
chain, to effectively be

{{00:01:51}}
able to work in those spaces.

So this is an area that we're,

{{00:01:55}}
pursuing and investigating.

{{00:01:57}}
Likewise, other industry,

{{00:01:59}}
bodies within Australia

{{00:02:01}}
are also doing lots of

{{00:02:02}}
thinking in this space.

So, there's a lot of

{{00:02:04}}
confidence in the field that

{{00:02:05}}
we're gonna get there, but we

{{00:02:07}}
certainly need to be putting

{{00:02:08}}
some energy into it right now.

I think the secret to

{{00:02:12}}
us moving forward,  in

{{00:02:14}}
a, in a efficient and a

{{00:02:16}}
fast way, is going to be

{{00:02:18}}
collaboration, collaboration

{{00:02:19}}
between,  registered

{{00:02:21}}
training organizations.

{{00:02:23}}
Universities, and industry

{{00:02:25}}
to try and work together to

{{00:02:28}}
determine how most effectively

{{00:02:29}}
to ensure that, the jobs

{{00:02:32}}
that are being, created or

{{00:02:35}}
emerging, the training is

{{00:02:38}}
going to be fit for purpose

{{00:02:39}}
for those, those roles.

{{00:02:41}}
I think in Australia, one of

{{00:02:42}}
the things, and this is coming

{{00:02:44}}
through in the research that

{{00:02:45}}
we're struggling with, is

{{00:02:47}}
the expertise aren't on the

{{00:02:49}}
ground to do this training.

{{00:02:51}}
So what we probably

{{00:02:53}}
need to see is some more

{{00:02:54}}
investment in Train the

{{00:02:56}}
trainer type initiatives.

{{00:02:57}}
So how is it that, we

{{00:03:00}}
can invest in people

{{00:03:01}}
that can go on and kind

{{00:03:03}}
of pass that forward,

{{00:03:05}}
pass their knowledge on.

{{00:03:06}}
At the moment, we are

{{00:03:07}}
looking to industry to do

{{00:03:08}}
a lot of that, and I think

{{00:03:09}}
actually there's a bigger

{{00:03:11}}
role to play for education

{{00:03:13}}
institutions, to, to take

{{00:03:15}}
that up and, and put some

{{00:03:16}}
energy into that space too.

{{00:03:18}}
There's a lot that we can

{{00:03:19}}
learn from talking to each

{{00:03:20}}
other, locally as well.

{{00:03:23}}
And I wouldn't want, us to

{{00:03:25}}
kind of go abroad without

{{00:03:27}}
first canvassing our own

{{00:03:28}}
landscapes on how we can

{{00:03:30}}
be coming together and,

{{00:03:32}}
and finding solutions

{{00:03:33}}
for, for Australia.

{{00:03:34}}
And the, the states

{{00:03:35}}
actually that, you

{{00:03:36}}
know, make up our place.

{{00:03:38}}
Obviously we have some,

{{00:03:40}}
challenges or some things

{{00:03:43}}
to work through in terms

{{00:03:44}}
of varying state-based

{{00:03:46}}
policies and, and different

{{00:03:47}}
legislative requirements.

{{00:03:49}}
And, this has all

{{00:03:51}}
been done before.

{{00:03:52}}
So really it's, it's just

{{00:03:55}}
a matter of getting in and

{{00:03:56}}
getting it done, and I think

{{00:03:57}}
there's some really great

{{00:03:57}}
people that are, that are

{{00:03:59}}
on a mission to do that.
