Katherine Powers is a Senior Field Applications Specialist at Asahi Kasei Bioprocess America (AKBA) where she performs GLP viral clearance studies and handles customer inquiries related to integrity testing of Planova filters. Since joining the Field Application group in 2019, she has supported various technical projects, including examination of viral clearance under specific process conditions, and variable pressure effects on nanofiltration. Katherine holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.

Description

Planova™ virus removal filters, used to remove small viruses and other contaminants, are operated either by constant pressure or constant flow rate control. Operation by constant pressure control reduces the risk of pressure fluctuations that are commonly encountered in constant flow operations. Asahi Kasei Bioprocess demonstrated good removal of porcine parvovirus (PPV) by Planova 20N and BioEX filters even under conditions of large fluctuations, exemplifying a robust virus removal process.
