  • Urban planner and quantitative geographer with training and experience applying advanced geospatial tools and information technology. Thought leader and researcher on sustainability issues, including decarbonization, resilience, climate risk, biodiversity, health, supply chains, and more.

  • International connector and collaborator with a demonstrated track record of creating public, private, and governmental partnerships to address sustainability issues, such as health promotion, climate risk, and supply chain management.

  • Effective communicator, reflected in more than 75 technical publications and 20+ advisory roles, including supporting the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Katie Rothenberg	Katie Rothenberg Vice President, ESG at Avalon Bay Communities

• Katie Rothenberg has been executing sustainability initiatives in the built environment for nearly 15 years, and has held multiple sustainability roles on the construction, operations, consulting, and non-profit sides of commercial real estate. As Vice President of ESG for AvalonBay Communities, Katie is responsible for leading their best-in-class ESG platform and directing strategy and stakeholder engagement. Significant focus areas include environmental initiatives such as carbon reduction targets (SBTi), renewables, climate related risk management, material health and building efficiency, in addition to guiding inclusion & diversity programs and strategic philanthropy for the organization.

Katie earned an MBA from The University of Denver, with a focus in Real Estate; and holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is a LEED Fellow and holds a Certificate in Corporate Citizenship Leadership from Boston College.

Jessica DiazJessica DiazCo-Founder and Vice President of Sustainability & Risk at PIIMA

• Jessica Díaz-Avelar is Co-Founder and Vice President of Sustainability and Risk at PIIMA®. For more than 15 years, she has overseen the identification, prevention, management, and mitigation of ESG risks throughout the useful life of more than 1,000 real estate assets in Mexico and US, working as an ESG consultant for several international and national real estate fund managers firms.

Jessica was part of PGIM LatAm, and Wal-Mart Sustainability area. Jessica also works as an E&S World Bank Consultant. Jessica is a professor and keynote speaker teaching sustainability courses; for UNEP, IFC, Greenbuild and other events worldwide; She has published scientific articles internationally. She has also received several awards, including the Force of the Change Award, the Bold Award, and GBCI's Women in Green Rising Stars.

She is a LEED AP and EDGE Auditor; she has taken diplomas in Real Estate Sustainability at NYU and MIT; She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and master’s in environmental engineering in Mexico.

Jennifer  LeitschJennifer LeitschManaging Director, Climate Change and Sustainability Services at EY

• Jennifer Leitsch is an accomplished sustainability executive and recognized thought leader with more than 15 years of experience leading environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy, programs, and reporting. As a Managing Director in the Climate Change and Sustainability Services practice at EY, she leads engagements advancing sustainability strategy, climate-related initiatives, and ESG reporting with clients in the real estate, hospitality and construction sector. Jennifer is the former VP, Corporate Responsibility for CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, where she was key in advancing their global ESG strategy. Prior to CBRE, Jennifer developed, implemented and reported on ESG strategy and programs at Prologis, the global leader in logistics real estate. She serves on the board of directors for United Nations Global Compact Network USA, the local network chapter of the UNGC. Jennifer is a Lecturer at the University of Colorado Denver Business School, where she teaches Accounting and Finance for Sustainability. Jennifer has an MBA and MS in Marketing from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

Darryl NeateDarryl NeateVice President, ESG at REALPAC

• Darryl is passionate about the intersection of business, sustainability and transformational change. He is an experienced professional with a 20-year track record of helping companies improve their environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and performance. Darryl started his career with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) managing the development of voluntary environmental standards and training programs for companies. From there he moved to Oxford Properties where he oversaw sustainability strategy, programs and reporting across a 100 million square foot global real estate portfolio for over 12 years. Darryl is currently the Vice President, ESG for the Real Property Association of Canada where he supports and leads the industry on ESG best practices, education and research. Darryl is also a founding partner of Mavericks Burger Co. – a new plant-based burger restaurant in Toronto that’s on a mission to inspire a tastier, healthier, sustainable future. Darryl’s unique skill is taking new ideas from vision to reality. He intuitively sees threads of opportunity, effectively analyzes and prioritizes them, engages others, and inspires action. He is a strong team builder and leader who is deeply committed to sustainable real estate and sustainable food. Darryl has an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, an MBA from York University and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Darryl enjoys sports, the outdoors, plant-based foods and travelling and lives in Toronto with his wife Devon and two children, Maggie & Owen.
