About the speakers
- Scott SperlingCo-Chief Executive Officer at Thomas H. Lee PartnersMr. Sperling is Co-Chief Executive Officer and a member of the firm’s Management and Investment committees. Mr. Sperling’s current and prior directorships include Thermo Fisher Scientific Corp., the Madison Square Garden Company, Experian, Warner Music Group, Houghton Mifflin Co., Fisher Scientific, Agiliti, Univision Communications, Inc., iHeartMedia, Inc., Front Line Management Companies., The Learning Company, PriCellular Corp., ProcureNet, ProSiebenSat.1, Wyndham Hotels, Federal Street Acquisition Corp. and several other private companies. Prior to joining Thomas H. Lee Partners, Mr. Sperling was, for more than a decade, managing partner of the affiliate of Harvard Management Company that managed all alternative asset classes for Harvard University’s endowment fund. Before that he was a Senior Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group. He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.S. from Purdue University. He is married with four children.
- Marco De BenedettiManaging Director & Co-Head at Carlyle Europe PartnersMarco De Benedetti joined Carlyle in 2005 and is currently a Managing Director and Co-head of Carlyle’s European Buyout Group, particularly focusing on branded consumer goods. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. De Benedetti was the Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Italia. Mr. De Benedetti was the Chief Executive Officer of Telecom Italia Mobile from 1999 until its merger with Telecom Italia. Mr. De Benedetti currently also serves on the boards of directors of Moncler SpA, Twin-Set SpA, Irca S.p.A., Forgital S.p.A., Comdata SpA, Design Holding S.p.A., Praesidiad Ltd., Hunkemoller N.V., CIR SpA, END Ashworth and Parker Limited and GEDI S.p.A.
- Dana HaimoffManaging Director, Portfolio Manager at J.P Morgan Asset ManagementMs. Haimoff has over 30 years of private equity investment and advisory experience. She joined the Private Equity Group of JP Morgan Asset Management in May 2002 and is based in London. Dana is a Senior Portfolio Manager, leading private equity investments including fund commitments, co-investments and secondary opportunities on behalf of institutional clients. Dana is a director on the board of JPMorgan Asset Management International Ltd and JPMorgan Asset Management (UK) Ltd and is responsible for the firm’s EMEA Alternatives as its Senior Manager Regime. Prior to JP Morgan, Dana spent seven years at Merrill Lynch’s investment bank in the Private Equity Placement Group. She is the co-Founder of Level20, a leading European organization set up to encourage women to succeed in the private equity industry. She is also a member of the British Venture Capital Association’s Limited Partner Committee. Dana attended Skidmore College and received her MBA from Columbia University.
- Helen SteersPartner, Head of European Investment Team at PantheonHelen is a Partner in Pantheon’s European Investment Team and Pantheon’s senior manager for our listed global private equity investment trust, Pantheon International Plc. She is a member of the International Investment Committee. Helen joined Pantheon in 2004 from Russell Investments in Paris where she was Managing Director with overall responsibility for private equity in Europe. Prior to joining Russell in 1999, Helen worked as Director, European Private Equity with the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and was a senior investment manager at the Business Development Bank of Canada in Montréal. Helen received a BA and an MA in Engineering from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. Helen is a Past Chair and Council member of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) and served on the Board and LP Council of Invest Europe. She is also a co-founder of Level 20, a non-profit organization established to inspire women to join and succeed in the private equity industry.
- Joana Rocha ScaffManaging Director, Head of Europe Private Equity at Neuberger BermanJoana Rocha Scaff is a Managing Director of Neuberger Berman, Head of Europe Private Equity and a member of the Private Investment Portfolios, Co-Investment and Secondary Investment Committees. She is also a member of Neuberger Berman’s ESG Advisory Committee. Ms. Rocha Scaff has over 20 years of experience in financial markets, the majority of which in private equity investing and prior to that in investment banking. She has been with the firm since 2005. Prior to NB Private Equity, Ms. Rocha Scaff worked in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers, and prior to that at Citigroup Global Markets and BES Investment Bank. She advised on corporate transactions including M&A, financial restructurings and public equity and debt offerings in the United States, Europe and Brazil. Ms. Rocha Scaff received her M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and her B.A. in Business Management and Administration from the Universidade Catolica of Lisbon. Ms. Rocha Scaff is the current Chair of the LP Committee of the BVCA – British Private Equity Association and a member of the Limited Partner Advisory Committee of multiple European private equity funds.
