Melanie McMillan is the Policy Lead at the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia. Melanie has over a decade’s experience in hospital pharmacy in the Victoria, Tasmania and WA health systems, holding senior clinical and management roles across oncology/haematology services primarily, as well as intensive care, transplant medicine, palliative care, dispensary and manufacturing services, and many more. • The vast majority of Australian public and private hospitals are now registered to My Health Record platform • A survey of hospital pharmacists examined the use of My Health Record in hospital pharmacy settings, its adoption, and barriers and challenges to its use • Barriers identified to greater use were largely structural; with a lack of integration with conformant clinical software raised most frequently • Cultural barriers relating to negative perceptions regarding the accuracy and completeness of patient information, with training emerging as a key factor to enhance engagement
