Joshua ShererJoshua ShererDeputy General Counsel at HSBC

Josh heads up HSBC’s global competition law team, which involves supporting the bank’s various business lines in over 60 countries and territories around the world. The team is split between London and Hong Kong, and advises on a full range of competition law matters. Josh joined HSBC in 2014, having previously worked for another UK bank and before that in private practice at Freshfields in London.

Olivia HaggerOlivia HaggerHead of Antitrust at London Stock Exchange Group

As Head of Antitrust at London Stock Exchange Group, Olivia has group-wide responsibility for providing competition law advice relating to a wide range of commercial matters. Olivia supports the group’s strategic initiatives by advising senior stakeholders on competition law implications for commercial policy and transactions. Olivia also manages competition and foreign investment approvals for group mergers and acquisitions, such as the recent $27 billion acquisition of Refinitiv. Olivia is responsible for competition compliance, including designing and delivering the group’s competition policy and compliance training. Olivia also manages any antitrust complaints processes or litigation should they arise.

Olivia joined LSEG in 2018, after 13 years at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where she was recognised in Who’s Who Legal’s Competition Future Leaders.

Alexandru PotlogAlexandru PotlogLegal Director, UK & Ireland at AbbVie

Alex is a competition and regulatory lawyer with more than 12 years of experience in the life sciences industry. Alex started his career with DLA Piper, working out of Bucharest and London and advising global innovative pharmaceutical companies on the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious competition and regulatory matters at national and EU level. After moving in-house in 2017, Alex was the Astellas Pharma Europe Legal Director responsible for a cluster of 25 markets across Europe (both within and outside the EU), providing legal support to business affiliates on a wide range of competition, commercial, regulatory and compliance related matters. Alex is currently the Legal Director of AbbVie Ltd. responsible for all legal matters related to the UK & Ireland. Alex holds an LL.M. diploma in Competition Law from Queen Mary, University of London and speaks regularly at events in London and Brussels.

Mari ScimemiMari ScimemiDirector, Global Competition Team at Barclays

Mari joined Barclays in 2015, after eight years as an associate in the Brussels and London offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. During the course of her career, Mari advised clients on complex, worldwide cartel investigations, merger control, abuse of dominance and vertical matters across a large number of industries before the European Commission and several other authorities. She currently advises Barclays Investment Bank and Services Company colleagues around the world on a variety of competition law matters and topics.

Previously, she worked for Mc Dermott Will & Emery Stanbrook, the European Commission (DG Competition), the Italian Competition Authority and the World Intellectual Property Organisation. She is dual qualified in the UK and Italy and holds a Master of Laws from University College London. She was recognised as one of the “30 in their 30s Notable Women Competition Professionals In-house.
