Dean Newburn is Regional Vice President, Global Services – Asia Pacific covering India, South East Asia, Indonesia, China, Australia and New Zealand. Dean has over 16 years of experience in the rail industry, incorporating various commercial and operations leadership roles, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Newcastle. Dean has a pivotal impact on the business across the region with his team to strengthen our customer relationships and develop a successful service operation. His organization oversees product development and implementation of upgrades, modernisation strategies and the delivery of the battery electric locomotives. He is also a champion of diversity leading the Diversity and Inclusion Council covering all the employee resource groups for Wabtec and celebrating a variety of experiences, expertise, and backgrounds, and aspire to create a place where we all belong.

Rod BarberRod BarberDirector Environment & Sustainability at Transport for NSW

Rod is the Director Environment & Sustainability Sydney in the Transport for NSW Environment & Sustainability Branch. Rod is a senior environmental specialist with more than 20 years’ experience in the environmental services, transport and waste management sectors.

Rod joined Sydney Trains in 2013, before transferring to Transport in 2021. Prior to joining Transport & Sydney Trains, Rod held previous roles as National Sustainability Manager at DP World and as the Environment Quality and Safety Manager at SITA Australia’s NSW Infrastructure Business Unit, and at WSN Environmental Solutions. Rod holds a BEng Environmental Engineering and BSc from the University of Newcastle. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer as a Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia. He lives in Sydney with his wife and two daughters, and loves going to see live music.

Anitra HobbyAnitra HobbyESG Principal at Pacific National

Anitra has 20+yrs experience including over 7 years with Pacific National, where she is currently ESG Principal. She supports Pacific National as it seeks to reduce the national supply chain carbon footprint through its own decarbonisation pathway and supporting the increased role of rail-freight in the national transition to a low carbon economy.

Dr Mahdi MasonDr Mahdi MasonSustainability Manager at Queensland Rail

Mahdi is an Environment and Sustainability Manager with more than 18 years’ experience across the mining, government and transport sectors. She has a passion for improving sustainability culture in organisations. During her time at Queensland Rail she has been responsible for delivering the organisation’s first Sustainability and Decarbonisation Plans. She looks forward to seeing how companies across the globe step up to the new international sustainability standards.

Mary RoeMary RoeExecutive Director at Development, Department of Transport and Planning

Mary Roe is the Executive Director Development in the Rolling Stock Development Division of the Department of Transport and Planning in Victoria. In her role Mary leads the development and delivery of new rolling stock and supporting infrastructure projects. Mary leads the long term rolling stock fleet and maintenance planning, working with the department’s planning division to ensure integration with Transport’s strategic plans. Mary has a career spanning over 20 years in project development and delivery for large road, rail, and mining Infrastructure project management, in Australia, the UK and Mongolia. Mary is a passionate advocate of the Department of Transport and Planning’s vision for an integrated and sustainable transport system that contributes to an inclusive, prosperous and environmentally responsible state.
