Selvana AwadSelvana AwadQUM Pharmacist at eHealth NSW

Selvana works for eHealth NSW within the Clinical Engagement and Patient Safety Directorate. She is the principal lead for designing and implementing a proactive Clinical Safety Management System for a major NSW digital health transformation program, known as the Single Digital Patient Record Program. As Senior Manager for Design Safety, Selvana is also responsible for providing human factors services to eHealth NSW projects during initial design and optimisation phases. She is a registered pharmacist with extensive expertise in medication safety at both local and state level, a patient safety expert, has a Masters of Health Service Management and is a PhD candidate in digital health human factors working with Prof Melissa Baysari.

Before working at eHealth NSW, Selvana worked at the Clinical Excellence Commission, leading statewide programs around venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention and other medication safety initiatives, and provided quality improvement coaching to Districts and Networks. Prior to this, she worked as a clinical pharmacist in NSW hospitals. Selvana’s expertise and interests lie in medication safety, digital health, clinical decision support, human factors, patient safety, quality improvement, research and health service management.

Nikki ReynoldsNikki ReynoldsLead Pharmacist – Command Centre at WA Country Health Service

Nikki Reynolds is a senior clinical pharmacist with over 13 years’ experience in hospital pharmacy. She completed her training in a large tertiary hospital in WA, before moving up to the Pilbara region in 2020 where she was the Regional Chief Pharmacist. This role was responsible for overseeing service delivery and medication management across 9 health sites spread over 500,000km.

After relocating back to Perth earlier this year due to family, Nikki is now the inaugural Virtual Clinical Pharmacist for WA Country Health Service (WACHS). This role is an innovative solution to address chronic workforce challenges, medication risks and patient disadvantage in country WA. The pilot is already showing great promise, with great improvements in medication safety indicators and plans to implement smart glass technology to better facilitate the virtual model.

Nikki’s role is based at the WACHS Command Centre, which supports over 100 sites in country WA with access to Emergency Physicians and specialist services via Telehealth. In a vast state without an Electronic Medical Record, the prescription and supply of medicines is extremely challenging. Having already facilitated outpatient ePrescribing and a state-wide medication rationalisation, Nikki is dedicated to finding innovative ways to address inequity and support country patients and staff.

Olimpia NigroOlimpia NigroPharmacist at SA Health

Olimpia Nigro is the Pharmacy Lead (Implementation and Business Change Consultant) for the SA Health Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Project.

She has been involved in the end-to-end design and implementation of electronic medication management (eMM) components of the SA Health EMR system since its inception in 2012, with successful implementation across all SA Health metropolitan hospitals and ongoing state-wide activation across regional sites.

Olimpia is involved in the ongoing optimisation and governance of eMM functionality in the system to support clinical practice and patient safety. She works closely with a highly-motivated team of EMR pharmacists and clinicians to continually improve the system, and to ensure its currency and utility in an ever-evolving contemporary health care setting

Dan McKavanaghDan McKavanaghSenior Consultant Pharmacist Digital Solutions and Cancer Services at Princess Alexandra Hospital

Dan McKavanagh BPharm, DipClinPharm CHIA MPS

Dan McKavanagh is the Director Clinical Informatics in Queensland Health’s Office of the CCIO, based in Brisbane. Dan has extensive experience in medicines management, cancer pharmacy and clinical informatics, having served as a clinical pharmacist, leading clinical systems implementation, and managing clinical informaticians. Dan also provides education to undergraduate and post-graduate clinicians in cancer medicine and clinical informatics.

Elise GriffithsElise GriffithsDirector, Lead Analyst for Pharmacy and Medications at ACT Health

Elise Griffiths is the Director and Lead Pharmacy Analyst for the Medication Systems Hub at ACT Health, where Epic was implemented as the territory-wide Digital Health Record in late 2022. She recently completed a term as acting Chief Pharmacy Information Officer for ACT Health, also taking on the team responsible for the maintenance of the Pharmacy Inventory Management System (MerlinMAP), Automated Dispensing Cabinets (Pyxis), and the opioid maintenance therapy dosing solution (iDose).

Elise commenced her career as a clinical pharmacist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and held roles in medication safety, guideline development and research. She was subsequently the lead pharmacy and medications analyst for the implementation of Epic in The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Women’s Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Parkville.

Elise has completed her Master of Public Health, and Graduate Certificate of eHealth (Health Informatics), and enjoys spending time in her garden trying not to accidentally kill her plants.

This session will include a series of short presentations by each state & territory representation leading into on-stage audience Q&A. The session will then breakout to more intimate roundtables hosted by a range representatives from each state & territory. These roundtables offer the opportunity for a deeper dive discussion with the state representative who can talk you through the various pain points, specific medication errors and how healthcare organisation have taken action to reduce them.

This session will bring together multiple states & territory’s all of which at different levels of digital health deployment. Enabling members of the digital health sphere to arm themselves with learnings & insights to make informed decisions within their setting.
