So we work across

those sectors, and that

also includes biotech

and digital health.

And when you've got strong

networking assets, it

means that you can build

the value in the system.

And so largely, that

ultimately ends up in

revenues coming in.

And that includes

export revenues and

jobs within the sector.

So when you've got

really strong networking

opportunities, you

actually create those

connections between the

players in the system.

When I talk about those

connections between the

players in the system,

I'm really talking about

the supply chain of

research and innovation.

So, we can do some excellent

{{00:01:18}}
research, but that research

{{00:01:19}}
needs to translate, and

{{00:01:21}}
often translation requires a

{{00:01:22}}
whole range of partnerships

{{00:01:24}}
for that to occur.

{{00:01:25}}
Those partnerships can

{{00:01:26}}
occur within the local

{{00:01:27}}
ecosystem, but they

{{00:01:28}}
also happen nationally

{{00:01:29}}
and internationally.

{{00:01:31}}
So, networking is really

{{00:01:32}}
important, not just at

{{00:01:33}}
the local level, but also

{{00:01:34}}
right across the globe.

The networking assets that we

{{00:01:37}}
have is providing connection.

{{00:01:40}}
That is a really key part

{{00:01:41}}
of the role that we play.

Connection means

{{00:01:43}}
that we can do deals.

And so that might be the

connection between innovators

that are doing research

with investors or companies

that will ultimately be

It might be connections

undertaking clinical trials

connections with investors.

So those networking assets

ultimately push the product

along the product development

pipeline and lead to those

revenues and jobs that we want

to see within the precinct.

Relationship building often

{{00:02:17}}
occurs at two different

{{00:02:18}}
levels, and that's

{{00:02:20}}
what we have a strong

focus on in our team.

So there are broad level

relationships that can

{{00:02:25}}
occur through things like

{{00:02:27}}
networking events, where

{{00:02:28}}
you bring together like

{{00:02:29}}
minded people and they

{{00:02:31}}
connect with one another.

The other way is the strategic

{{00:02:34}}
connections that occur between

{{00:02:36}}
individuals or organisations.

{{00:02:38}}
And it's really key that

{{00:02:39}}
those strategic connections

{{00:02:40}}
are well facilitated.

Firstly, you need to

{{00:02:44}}
understand the context

{{00:02:45}}
of making those strategic

{{00:02:47}}
connections, so to be able

{{00:02:48}}
to understand what it is

{{00:02:49}}
that either party wants,

{{00:02:51}}
and then to make those

{{00:02:52}}
warm introductions that

{{00:02:53}}
can lead to transactions

{{00:02:55}}
that are really valuable.

Concierge services

are really important.

It's hard for somebody to come

into a sector and understand

everything that's going on,

and in particular, it's hard

where they need to connect.

So, we have a great

everyone in the ecosystem.

So, that might be the research

capabilities they need, it

might be clinical trials,

it might be companies that

will actually help them get

their product downstream.

The other thing it might

{{00:03:40}}
be is investors and the

{{00:03:42}}
like, so I think concierge

services really enable,

{{00:03:46}}
the network assets to

{{00:03:48}}
really function well.

So one of the best ways to

create an easy, accessible

front door is to have

{{00:03:54}}
a place where people

{{00:03:55}}
can knock on that door.

So essentially that's

having the right person

{{00:03:59}}
that is willing to have a

{{00:04:00}}
conversation with anyone

that comes to them.

So I think there are

{{00:04:04}}
a few ways that that

{{00:04:05}}
can be achieved.

{{00:04:06}}
Obviously having a strong.

{{00:04:09}}
marketing presence in terms

{{00:04:10}}
of an online activities is

{{00:04:12}}
really important so that

{{00:04:13}}
people know where to come.

{{00:04:15}}
But once they've knocked on

{{00:04:16}}
that door, being able to meet

{{00:04:18}}
and greet them in the right

{{00:04:19}}
way is also really important.

We often will schedule just

{{00:04:23}}
a half hour, conversation

{{00:04:25}}
with those that are looking

{{00:04:26}}
to knock on that front door

{{00:04:28}}
so that we understand what

{{00:04:29}}
it is they need and want

{{00:04:30}}
and we can provide them

{{00:04:32}}
with the connections and the

{{00:04:33}}
information that they need

{{00:04:35}}
to come into the system.

Mentoring networks are really

{{00:04:38}}
important so that people can

{{00:04:40}}
learn from those that have

{{00:04:41}}
been there and done that.

{{00:04:43}}
But, they also need

{{00:04:44}}
to be facilitated.

We need to facilitate

{{00:04:47}}
those mentoring activities.

{{00:04:49}}
Often that's about knowing

{{00:04:50}}
who the mentors are within

{{00:04:52}}
the ecosystem and making

{{00:04:53}}
sure that you follow them

{{00:04:54}}
whether they're still within

{{00:04:55}}
your state, whether they've

{{00:04:56}}
moved to another state or

{{00:04:57}}
even overseas, and connecting

{{00:04:59}}
them with the companies and

{{00:05:01}}
the individuals where they

{{00:05:02}}
can provide best value.

In South Australia, we're

really fortunate that we know

a number of the mentors and

a Often connecting them to

companies and individuals

that are in the startup space.

We also run a few formal

training programs.

So we have an industry

doctoral training centre.

That is a research

{{00:05:21}}
industry collaboration

{{00:05:22}}
that supports PhD students.

And that's a formal way

essentially of mentoring PhD

{{00:05:27}}
students within Adelaide to

{{00:05:29}}
be the best they can be once

{{00:05:30}}
they go out into industry.
