Omar LaalejOmar LaalejManaging Director at Al Mada Ventures

Omar is an experienced cross-border investment professional with deep knowledge of early and growth-stage corporate finance, leveraged buyouts, corporate development, strategy, and operations. Omar is a Managing Director at Al Mada Ventures, overseeing the Al Mada Venture Capital Fund (the “Fund”) as a member of the Investment Committee. Before joining Al Mada Ventures, Omar co-founded and co-led the Cathay AfricInvest Innovation Fund, where he closed 10+ transactions with total committed capital exceeding $170m in value, including 5 exits. Before AfricInvest, Omar worked at Elo Touch Solutions and VWR after launching his career as a Private Equity Analyst at Graham Partners. Omar earned his B.A. with a double major in finance and accounting from Drexel University. Omar was born and raised in Morocco.

Mike is a coFounder and Managing Partner at Enza Capital. He is an experienced venture investor and entrepreneur focused on high-growth technology businesses solving problems across Africa, and he is a Kauffman Fellow (KF 2😎. Mike has worked across 4 continents and sits as a Director on the boards of multiple venture-backed technology companies across East, West, and South Africa.

Prior to launching Enza Mike was an Investor at the Global Innovation Fund where he focused on venture-stage investing in African tech companies. Mike previously built and ran the early-stage investment business at ClearlySo, a venture-backed Impact Investment Bank in London, and he is a coFounder of the Accra Angel Network. Mike has broad entrepreneurial experience as an angel-backed coFounder of a youth-focused online-banking platform in the UK, a coFounder of the UK office of the now global MakeSense, and the Founder of two home services businesses while in University. In addition to venture capital Mike has public equity experience as a buy-side investor at a $4bn+ Asset Management firm within Credit Agricole.

Mike holds degrees in Economics and Communications from the University of California, Davis. He is an avid tennis player, skier, sailor, and painter. Mike is a Trustee at the Treebeard Trust, a social investor that supports transformational initiatives creating a fairer society, and he is a Trustee and co-founder of the Black Global Trust, a vehicle supporting black advancement at scale. Mike lives in Nairobi and spends his time across Africa, Europe, and the US.

Marieke RoestenbergMarieke RoestenbergProgram Manager at FMO Ventures

As of 2020 Marieke is Manager of the Private Equity Ventures team at FMO, the dedicated Venture Capital team that is responsible for the implementation, deployment and overall management of the FMO Ventures Program and other early-stage investments with a focus on technology and innovation. Prior to the formal launch of the team, Marieke was in charge of setting up FMO’s Ventures Program, coordinating efforts related to the establishment of the investment team, the drafting of the investment strategy, as well as the blending efforts related to the funding of the Program.

Previously she worked as Principal Investment Officer at the Private Equity department focusing on investments in renewable (off grid) energy. Prior to this she spent 2.5 years as Fund Manager at FMO Investment Management, where she was responsible for the fundraising efforts of an Africa focused Fund of Funds initiative. Before joining FMO Investment Management in 2013, Marieke worked as Senior Investment Officer at FMO’s Private Equity department for nearly nine years. She is a seasoned private equity professional with ample transaction experience in fund investments as well as direct investments and served on the Advisory Board of several investment funds.

Prior to joining FMO in 2004, Marieke worked as Analyst at the Corporate Development department of ABN AMRO Bank. She holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
