    Alain Werner is an international lawyer admitted to the Geneva Bar, with a LL.M from Columbia University, New York (2003). He is one of the very few lawyers in the world who represented victims in front of several international criminal courts as well as in front of a national court. He participated in some of the most important war crimes trials of the past 20 years, including 2 trials of former Heads of State trials (trial of Charles Taylor, former President of Liberia in front of the Special Court of Sierra Leone in Freetown and in The Hague, and trial of Hissène Habré, former President of Chad in front of the Extraordinary African Chambers in Dakar). Alain also represented victims in the Duch case, the first Khmer Rouge trial in Phnom Penh in front of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. In 2012 Alain set up in Geneva Civitas Maxima (CM), a network of International lawyers and investigators who represent victims of International crimes. CM’s work has contributed one way or another to 11 arrest, indictiments or trials in 6 different countries on 2 continents of persons involved with international crimes. As Director of CM, Alain represented victims in court in the first ever criminal trial in Switzerland in front of the Swiss Federal Criminal Court which led to a conviction for war crimes and crimes against humanity (the Alieu Kosiah case). In 2019 Alain was awarded by the Geneva Bar Association the Bâtonnier Michel Halpérin Prize for Excellency, and in 2020 he became an Ashoka Fellow.

    Alain became part of Vi Partners in 2002, following a successful period from 1989 to 2002, during which he invested in numerous companies spanning the medical instrumentation (e.g., compx), information technology (e.g., vtx-telecom, sourcingparts , mnc.ch, leshop), and consumer sectors (e.g., chateauform, fleurdepains). In many instances, he played a pivotal role as either a founder or an early-stage seed investor, often holding executive positions. Prior to his entrepreneurial pursuits, he provided strategic counsel to prominent telecommunication operators, specializing in cable television, interactive services, and M&A transactions Alain started his career at Arthur Andersen and McKinsey. He holds a business degree from HEC Lausanne and an MBA from INSEAD, Fontainebleau. He is fluent in English, French, German and Spanish.

    Elena is a Partner at Ashoka Europe where she co-leads on fundraising as well as leadership management. She is also the director of the Ashoka Carry4Good pledge - a concept pioneered by Ashoka that helps forward-thinking VC and Private Equity funds to become agents of change in social impact. Previously, Elena was the co-director of Ashoka in the UK and Ireland, where she lead a team of 12 to provide strategic support to the most innovative and systems-changing social entrepreneurs in the region. Before joining Ashoka Elena worked for the Anglo-german think tank Convoco, convening some of Europe's leading thinkers, politicians and high court judges to engage in interdisciplinary debate. Elena obtained a Masters degree in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics where she specialised in the Politics of Climate Change. Before, she studied Business Administration and Management at the Freie Universitaet Berlin. Elena is passionate about challenging the impact and philanthropy sector to think more systemically. She has over 8 years experience assessing, advising and supporting social entrepreneurs as well as advising philanthropists and business leaders on how to maximize their impact.
