About the speakers
- Shruti ChandrasekharHead of Private Equity Investments, Africa Region at IFCShruti Chandrasekhar heads the private equity funds business for the African continent for the IFC, investing and managing a portfolio of over $2B invested across Africa. Previously, Shruti led and managed a portfolio of unlisted closed-end private equity and venture capital funds across frontier markets with a strong focus on emerging managers and impact. She also invested in growth-stage technology companies for the IFC across emerging managers. Shruti currently serves on multiple boards and advisory committees of several private equity and venture capital funds and companies. Since 2006, Shruti has built a successful track record investing equity—leading venture capital deals in Silicon Valley, private equity transactions in India, and fund investments across the world. Prior to the IFC, Shruti was based in California and focused on late-stage venture capital with PremjiInvest, a multi-billion dollar investment office with multiple investments in Silicon Valley & emerging market unicorns such as Coupa, Anaplan, ServiceMax, Flipkart, etc. Prior to her investment career, Shruti was a management consultant at Oliver Wyman. She has an MBA from the Wharton School and a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
- Riikka MolanderAssociate Director, Fund Investments at FinnfundRiikka Molander is the Head of PE Funds portfolio at Finnfund. Before joining the investment team Ms. Molander worked as a Senior Legal Counsel at Finnfund, where she worked closely with the investment team in equity and PE fund transactions. Prior to joining Finnfund Ms. Molander worked as a legal counsel for a Finnish PE fund focusing on energy in the emerging market. Ms. Molander studied at the University of Helsinki, where she received a masters degree in law. Having joined Finnfund in 2006 and having worked with PE fund prior to this, Ms. Molander has acquired extensive and versatile experience in PE funds. She also holds many advisory committee seats in Finnfund's PE funds.
- Catherine SwanepoelChief Investment Officer at South Suez CapitalCatherine has over 20 years of professional finance experience and is a Partner and the Chief Investment Officer of South Suez Capital. Prior to joining South Suez, Catherine was an Investment Manager in the Africa team at BII (previously the CDC group), the UK Development Finance Institution and a leading emerging market private equity investor. During her time at BII, Catherine was responsible for performing due diligence on new fund investments as well as for monitoring the performance of existing funds within the portfolio. She previously spent four years in the investment banking division at Goldman Sachs, predominantly in transaction execution for private equity clients. Catherine holds a B. Com (Hons) in Economics and a M. Com in Economics from the University of Cape Town.
- Morula DigoamayeUnlisted Investments Manager at Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF)Morula Digoamaye serves as the Unlisted Investments Manager at the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), where he has been entrusted with overseeing the implementation of the organisation’s unlisted investments strategy. This includes managing the internally-managed private equity portfolio of funds (Fund of Funds) and the portfolio of funds managed by the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) (Direct Unlisted Investments). With nearly ten years of experience in the financial services industry, Morula has garnered extensive expertise in investment banking, investment management, and fund research. He commenced his career at Standard Chartered Bank in Johannesburg, where he was a transactor in the Africa-focused Leverage Finance team. Subsequently, he assumed the credit analyst role, responsible for covering financial institutions in the Southern Africa region. Morula later joined Alex Forbes Investments as the lead fund research analyst, where he extensively covered alternative investment and South Africa fixed-income fund strategies. His alternative investment coverage spanned sub-Saharan African private equity, private debt, infrastructure, and unlisted property investment strategies.
