Ulf Larsson is an internationally recognized rail advisor and a senior leader in the global rail industry. With over 30 years of experience, he has developed a multi-faceted understanding of the entire life cycle of rail, from the feasibility stage to operation and asset management. Starting his career in the rail supplier industry, Ulf initially managed locomotive deliveries to the United States, metro trains to Stockholm and finally, led a Turn-key Design-Build-Operate-Transfer-Finance delivery of Izmir Metro, Turkey. In the current century, Ulf has been providing investment and asset management advice to Public Transport Authorities and Agencies, private rail systems suppliers and service providers in Europe, the United States, and Asia. He relocated to New Zealand early 2022 to take on the role of technical lead for the 30-year Auckland Rail Programme Business Case. Currently, Ulf is assisting the Greater Wellington Regional Council as the technical lead in their procurement of new battery trains and a depot. He serves as the global lead for rolling stock and operations & maintenance at WSP and heads the Global Academy for Rail & Transit and the Global Rail Initiative for Decarbonisation. Ulf has devoted his professional career to enhancing the competitiveness of sustainable transport.
