Betsy Del Monte, FAIA, LEED BD+CBetsy Del Monte, FAIA, LEED BD+CArchitect & Consultant at Cameron Macallister

Betsy del Monte, FAIA, LEED BD+C, is a consultant with the Cameron MacAllister Group, working with firms and project teams to enable sustainable and resilient design thinking. She also created and teaches a Masters program in Sustainability and Development at SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering. Practicing as an architect, she has 30 years of experience in high-performance architecture and environmentally responsive planning.
Betsy served on the national AIA Strategic Council 2018-2020 and is the 2021 Chair of AIA’s Committee on the Environment. She has been President of AIA Dallas and chair of the North Texas USGBC. She is a national instructor for the Urban Land Institute’s UrbanPlan. Betsy has been named a Fellow by the AIA, and a Senior Fellow by the Design Futures Council. She received her BS in architecture from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Architecture from Rice University.

Anica is HOK’s global sustainable design director, serving on the firm’s board of directors and design board. Based in Washington, D.C., Anica is a mayoral appointee to the District of Columbia’s Green Building Advisory Council and co-chairs the Building Energy Performance Standard Task Force. Anica is serving a third term on the Green and Energy Codes Committee, supporting the district’s decarbonization code development and advancement to a zero-carbon code by 2026. Nationally, Anica is a senior fellow of the New Buildings Institute, serves as incoming Chair of the USGBC LEED Steering Committee and on the AIA Government Advocacy Committee; is a former chair of the AIA Codes and Standards Committee; , and co-authored with the AIA Blue Ribbon Panel on Codes “Disruption, Evolution, and Change: AIA’s Vision for the Future of Design and Construction.” Anica's testimony before Congress and recommendations for building policies and incentives are included in the House Select Committee report “Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy, Resilient, and Just America” as well as the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act of 2021 and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Angie Scott is Director and Community Concept Lead for the WELL Building Standard and WELL Equity Lead at the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). She previously served as an Assistant Professor of Interior Design believing that the built environment should be equitable for everyone regardless of race, gender, age, or ability. Her research takes a preventative approach to the interior environment focusing on the intersection of residential design, housing, and well-being; and cultural well-being and workplace environments. Scott has worked in the interior design profession as a practitioner, educator, and researcher for over 20 years. She earned a Ph.D. in interior design from the University of Minnesota, holds a DEI Workplace Certificate from the University of South Florida, and was named an inaugural ASID Ones To Watch Award Winner and Scholar continually advocating for well-being and equity in the built environment.

Kristy M. Walson, PE, LEED Fellow, LEED AP BD+C, LEED AP O+M, BEMPKristy M. Walson, PE, LEED Fellow, LEED AP BD+C, LEED AP O+M, BEMPSenior Sustainability Engineer at Amazon Fresh

Kristy M. Walson, PE, LEED Fellow, BEMP is a mechanical engineer by trade who focuses on sustainable design as a Senior Sustainability Engineer at Amazon Fresh. She also has served in multiple volunteer roles with US Green Building Council, sits on various advisory panels, and is currently the Chair of the University of Florida’s Green Building Learning Collaborative. A graduate of Virginia Tech (BS) and the University of Michigan (MS), Kristy has experience in Visual DOE, Equest, and IES VE-Pro energy modeling software and uses these tools to accurately model the life cycle costs of building energy use. In her spare time, Kristy enjoys hiking and enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Jamie, and their three children, Clay (11), Noah (9), and Finn (7).

Description

The course will incorporate the perspectives of leaders in the green building movement, who have devoted their work to the improvement of our built environment, the AEC industry, and society. The panelists will share their visions for the future of green buildings, from each of their unique perspectives, with the intent to inspire the audience to be changemakers in their own way. The panel will discuss topics such as: how to equitably work towards a Carbon Neutral existence, what roles do embodied and operational carbon play in climate change over the next decade, and how increased diversity amongst climate advocates and project stakeholders results in quicker movement toward the final goal.
