Clare PopeClare PopePartner, Energy Transition at PwC Australia

Clare Pope is a partner in PwC Australia's Energy Transition team based in Perth. She has significant experience in advising her clients in relation to M&A and project development work across energy and resources, renewable energy and energy transition projects. Clare is currently advising on the development of nine green and blue hydrogen projects in Western Australia, and regionally, including projects seeking to develop low carbon products, green products and to transition operations, and supporting projects seeking to develop carbon capture and underground storage projects either as a service or as an adjacent project to existing operations. Clare has worked in Perth, London, Tokyo, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and has been recognised in a number of legal directories as an expert in her field.

Dr Kate George is a Putejurra woman from the Murchison-Gascoyne region in WA and was the first Aboriginal student to graduate in law from the ANU and the first Aboriginal woman to be admitted to practice law in WA. She has held senior public service positions, including as a Ministerial Advisor at both the State and Federal level and worked across the corporate, public and non-government sectors during her career. She is a Board member Northern Australia Infrastructure Fund (NAIF), Deputy Chair Marputu Aboriginal Corporation (RNTBC) and Co-Lead DCCEEW’s First Nations Advisory Committee, Clean Energy and Climate Change. She runs her consulting business Claypan Services providing services to government, corporates and community. She recently joined the board of Bugardi Pty Ltd an Indigenous contracting company as Managing Director.

James Choi was Australia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea (with cross accreditation to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) from 2016 to 2021. During his term, he managed the upgrading of the Australia-Korea relationship and facilitated a rapid expansion in trade and investment ties, especially in the areas of critical minerals and hydrogen. After 27 years in the public service, James completed his ambassadorial term and resigned to establish J2 Advisory. James was Senior Adviser to Australia’s Foreign Minister from 2013 to 2016. He was Australia’s Ambassador to Denmark (2010-2013), with previous postings to Australia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York (2002-2005) and Seoul (1995-1997). At J2 Advisory, James is using his extensive global experience and networks to accelerate trade and investment opportunities in Korea and Australia as both economies transition to a low-carbon future. He has been appointed as an adviser to the Korean steelmaking giant, POSCO. He is a Senior Adviser to Prostar Capital. James was also appointed as Honorary Ambassador of Foreign Investment Promotion by the Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Aaron Morey is the Chief Economist and Executive Director of Policy, Campaigns and Strategy at CCIWA. Prior to joining CCIWA Aaron was the political, economics and commercial adviser to the WA Treasurer Ben Wyatt, managing significant projects including the historic 2018 GST reforms, the $1.4b Landgate asset sale, WA’s trade relationship with China, and the successful Bell Group negotiations. In his final year in the office Aaron assumed the role of Deputy Chief of Staff.

Kylie TurnerKylie TurnerSystem Lead - Sustainable Economies at Climateworks Centre

Based in Climateworks’ Perth office, Kylie leads the Sustainable Economies system team, pursuing sustainable pathways towards net zero by focusing on how we can accelerate systems change in line with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees in national and sub-national economies. The Sustainable Economies system supports key stakeholders to engage on net zero strategies and aligned policy that encourages green economic diversification, taking into consideration the economic and development co-benefits that a shift towards sustainable economies can deliver. Kylie was most recently the program impact manager for the Australian Industry Energy Transitions Initiative, working with heavy industry, finance companies and government to develop decarbonisation pathways aligned to limiting warming to 1.5℃. Kylie has worked in government, business, and the not-for-profit sector in public affairs roles, focusing on stakeholder engagement. Her speciality is building collaborative relationships and alignment to facilitate transformation. Kylie holds a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration with RMIT and is currently studying for a Masters in Business Administration, also with RMIT.
