The Australian Society of Anaesthetists launched its Anaesthetist Workforce Modelling Final Report (2024) at Australian Parliament House in August 2024. This new report examines the current composition of, and trends in, the Australian anaesthetic workforce and anticipates likely changes in the supply of anaesthetists needed over the next 10 years to meet future service demands.

• The Australian Health Workforce is under pressure and is changing in its participation rates.
• There is a current shortage of Anaesthetists and there are predicted further shortfalls in the supply of anaesthetists relative to future demand.
• The ASA commissioned this study to ascertain the extent of the issue aiming to be solved as governments have various levers at their disposal to appropriately solve supply and demand without compromising safety and quality.
