facing water scarcity for a

long time now  particularly

after the last few droughts

over the last few decades.

And so there's some really

good technologies and

{{00:00:48}}
ways to manufacture water,

such as desalination

{{00:00:51}}
and water recycling.

So I think there are lots of

{{00:00:54}}
opportunities for the hydrogen

{{00:00:55}}
industry to work with the

{{00:00:58}}
water industry and utilise

{{00:01:00}}
some of the technologies that

{{00:01:01}}
already exist today to produce

{{00:01:02}}
water to meet the demands

{{00:01:04}}
for hydrogen in the future.

{{00:01:06}}
Water efficiency is also

{{00:01:07}}
something  that we've had

{{00:01:08}}
to deal with in terms of

{{00:01:09}}
all consumptive use of water

{{00:01:10}}
across Australia and overseas.

And so thinking about how the

{{00:01:15}}
hydrogen production process

{{00:01:17}}
can be more efficient is

{{00:01:19}}
key and, and number one.

{{00:01:21}}
but also when you're

{{00:01:22}}
looking at using water for

{{00:01:23}}
cooling, in the process

{{00:01:25}}
of hydrogen production

{{00:01:27}}
will also be important.

In terms of actually

{{00:01:30}}
being able to  supply

{{00:01:32}}
more water that day.

{{00:01:33}}
That'll come later in terms

{{00:01:35}}
of those manufactured water

{{00:01:36}}
sources or water sources

{{00:01:38}}
that aren't dependent on

{{00:01:39}}
rainfall or impacted as

{{00:01:41}}
much by climate change.

First thing to consider is

{{00:01:44}}
that we need to have green

{{00:01:46}}
energy sources  because

{{00:01:48}}
we need to reduce and

{{00:01:51}}
eradicate the production

{{00:01:52}}
of carbon emissions.

So green hydrogen is really

{{00:01:55}}
positive  in that respect

{{00:01:57}}
and communities do understand

{{00:01:59}}
the impacts of climate

{{00:02:00}}
change, and what it means

{{00:02:02}}
we need to do to achieve

{{00:02:03}}
carbon net zero future.

I guess the, main

{{00:02:07}}
consideration though

{{00:02:08}}
is bringing the

{{00:02:09}}
communities along.

{{00:02:10}}
We also have had the same

{{00:02:11}}
situation  when looking

{{00:02:13}}
at new technologies such

{{00:02:14}}
as desalination and water

{{00:02:16}}
recycling that haven't

{{00:02:17}}
always been accepted by the

{{00:02:19}}
community  and we still have

{{00:02:20}}
some challenges in terms

{{00:02:21}}
of other sources of water.

{{00:02:23}}
So I think as long as the

{{00:02:24}}
hydrogen sector is bringing

{{00:02:26}}
communities along in terms

{{00:02:27}}
of understanding the benefits

{{00:02:29}}
and trade offs, that's what

{{00:02:32}}
we actually really see as

{{00:02:33}}
key  when we're looking

{{00:02:35}}
at new water sources and

{{00:02:36}}
technologies as well.

{{00:02:38}}
The water sector is an

{{00:02:39}}
extremely collaborative

{{00:02:40}}
industry  and have been

{{00:02:41}}
working on projects across

{{00:02:43}}
the circular economy that

{{00:02:45}}
look at waste streams and

{{00:02:46}}
also energy production.

{{00:02:48}}
So there's great

{{00:02:49}}
opportunities and

{{00:02:50}}
relationships and partnerships

{{00:02:52}}
that already exist.

I think the key is

{{00:02:55}}
looking at how the water

{{00:02:56}}
industry can actually

{{00:02:58}}
support the production of

{{00:02:59}}
water for hydrogen use.

And how the industries work

{{00:03:04}}
together in a circular economy

framework  that looks at how

{{00:03:08}}
the resources  energy and

{{00:03:10}}
water and waste can be used

{{00:03:13}}
throughout  their life  for

the benefit of the community.

place, long term planning

in terms of water sources,

not only for communities

{{00:03:52}}
and for other economic

{{00:03:53}}
activity, but also for the

{{00:03:54}}
production of hydrogen.

So while I think there is some

{{00:03:57}}
great examples of how we work

{{00:03:59}}
today, I think if we get, get

{{00:04:02}}
to the point that we actually

{{00:04:03}}
can integrate that planning

{{00:04:05}}
for the water sources used

{{00:04:07}}
for the hydrogen economy,

{{00:04:09}}
then we'll be in a much better

{{00:04:10}}
place to be able to meet that

{{00:04:11}}
need and demand in the future.
