Prof. Matt Rickard
Colorectal Surgeon at Macquarie University Hospital and Concord Hospital

Associate Professor Matt Rickard is the Chair of Colorectal Surgery, Concord Clinical School, University of Sydney. Matt is a colorectal surgeon at Concord Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He has extensive experience in advanced colorectal, surgical techniques, colorectal cancer, laparoscopic colorectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease and surgical epidemiology. Following graduation with honours from the University of Sydney, he undertook further surgical training locally (receiving a master’s degree in Epidemiology) and internationally. He has been the Chair of the Australia and New Zealand Training Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, the Chair of the Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a councillor of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is the Head of Department of Colorectal Surgery at Concord Hospital. During his training he worked in Kenya for a year and South Africa for a year. Since commencing practice, he has volunteered in Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Malawi, the Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam and Timor-Leste.
