Aimee Edinger, PhD
Professor, Developmental & Cell Biology and Chancellor's Fellow at UC Irvine

Aimee Edinger, VMD/PhD, Professor and Chancellor’s Fellow at UC Irvine. Aimee is a member of the Department of Developmental and Cell Biology in the UCI School of Biological Sciences. She has studied the intracellular trafficking pathways between the plasma membrane and lysosome for over 20 years. Her laboratory is engaged in fundamental, mechanistic studies but also seeks to translate the knowledge gained into therapies for cancer, obesity, and other diseases. To this end, her group engages in interdisciplinary collaborations with experts in proteomics, chemistry, and oligonucleotide therapeutics including scientists at Ionis Therapeutics who have supported her work with both reagents and their expertise. Aimee’s research program is currently funded by awards from the NIH and the Ono Pharma Foundation. She serves as Co-Director of the Cancer Research Institute at UC Irvine, was elected an AAAS Fellow, and is a Founder and President of Siege Pharmaceuticals, a startup developing the small molecules studied by her UCI lab. In addition to her passion for research, Aimee is a committed teacher and mentor and has won campuswide awards for these activities. She is also committed to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in science and promoting scientific communication that is accessible to the general public.
