Denise Faustman, M.D., Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School

Denise Faustman, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Faustman researchers and develops new therapeutic concepts to treat autoimmunity, cancer and infectious disease. She oversees a large multidisciplinary lab that conducts basic science through translation, clinical trial design, drug manufacturing and clinical trial implementation. The Faustman lab has uncovered the basic molecular and immunological mechanisms behind the immune imbalances in autoimmunity and cancer. She is international leader as it relates to the TNF superfamily of receptors with an emphasis on the TNFR2 signaling, a pathway that is deficient in autoimmunity and overactive in cancer and infectious disease. Her most advanced clinical trials, Phase II/III involve the use of the BCG vaccine, an inducer of TNFR2 signaling as a means via metabolism and Treg immunology to clinically impact Alzheimer’s and type 1 diabetes. She has published over one hundred peer review articles and book chapters and in 2017 was elected to the National Academy of Inventors in Washington DC for her contributions to immunology.
