Tanya PetrovichTanya PetrovichBusiness Innovation Manager at Dementia Australia

Tanya completed studies in Genetics at the University of Melbourne. She has spent many years teaching in the fields of Science, and Health Science. She joined Dementia Australia in 2008. Tanya leads the team in applying innovation to services and products that support the lives of people living with dementia. In 2013 her team developed the Virtual Dementia Experience which was the first VR experience to be used in Dementia Care Education. Today EDIE- Educational Dementia Immersive Experience VR mobile experience is available to people not only in Australia but worldwide, including Europe, Canada and New Zealand. In 2022, the BrainTrack App was released to boost self-monitoring of cognitive health and encourage help seeking. With over 70,000 downloads BrainTrack recently won the Australian-Google 2023 award for Best App for Good, and SingaporeGoogle -Best Hidden Gem.

• Experiential learning can provide better engagement of workers than standard education. • Through virtual experiences workers can practice their dementia support and learn in a safe environment. • Talk with Ted allows workers to practice and learn better communication skills with people living with dementia. • Our preliminary evaluation results show that virtual experience may be 4 times more effective than traditional online learning in promoting practice change.
