Christine Yates

Chris Yates leads Australian Unity’s Retail Platform, a specialised business unit which brings together the Health Insurance and Banking businesses that focus on Australian Unity’s retail customers and members. Chris joined Australian Unity in August 2020 after a decade at National Australia Bank, where her last role was Chief Customer Officer for Private, Wealth and Insurance at NAB’s subsidiary, the Bank of New Zealand.

Chris is a highly experienced executive with over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry including retail banking, wealth management and insurance. Chris anchors her strategic thinking constantly on deeply understanding customers, suitable products and services and fair value; all critical for a sustainable business platform. She is a visionary leader who believes in the importance of creating an environment where her team aligns deeply on strategy and leverages their own capability and that of partners to constantly improve the design and delivery of products and services to customers. Working for one of Australia’s oldest wellbeing organisations gives her a broad lens into society, as the Australian Unity group traverses aged care, allied health services (like Remedy), wealth management investments and services as well as social infrastructure developments, like Brisbane’s Herston Quarter and STARS (the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Services building).

Chris holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Master of Human Resource Management and is currently completing her Doctoral Business Administration. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia & New Zealand. Chris is a Director on the Australian Unity Bank Limited Board and Australian Unity Health Limited Board.
