Sheila Cook

Director of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service

Dr Sheila Cook is the Director of Medicine at Toowoomba Hospital. She was the first Endocrinologist to move west of Brisbane, and developed a model of service for diabetes that meant that she visited 30 GP practices regularly to see her patients with their own GPs. This clinic involved over 130 GPs to develop their skills in managing diabetes and endocrinology. Not only did patients and GPs benefit, but the hospital waiting list was eliminated. As a mother of four, she is obsessed with the effects of sleep deprivation and poor diet on health outcomes, and is passionate about educating patients on simple lifestyle strategies that improve health and longevity.
