With fast-evolving energy codes and municipalities carbon reduction requirements, our approach to designing high-performance buildings must adapt. This session highlights what lessons we can draw from delivering buildings to the Passive House standard for over 30 years, to help make high-performance buildings the new norm. Topics such as effective management of energy and carbon budgets, operational vs embodied carbon emissions, and the need for a robust early-phase framework to support decision-making, will be discussed. Lessons learned during the design, modelling, procurement, and construction of these buildings will be illustrated with local case studies, through a range of building size and typology.
