David is an accomplished senior executive who positively promotes and leads organisational, workforce and systemic change. Starting in the health and human services sectors in 1995, he has extensive experience within the government and not for profit sectors across frontline service delivery, policy and project, education and training, management, senior executive and non-executive roles in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania.
David has been a passionate advocate for vulnerable and marginalised groups in the community throughout his career working within the child protection, youth justice, alcohol and other drug, disability, homelessness and vocational education sectors. Prior to commencing with Ahpra, David held the statutory office of Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People for Tasmania. His work in that role along with five years as the Tasmanian State Manager with National Disability Services provided excellent transferable skills and experience to the regulation of health practitioners.
With qualifications in health sciences, vocational education and public policy, David has undertaken numerous representative roles including as Tasmania’s representative on the Australian Industry Skills Committee, as a member of the Australian and New Zealand Children’s Commissioners and Guardians, and as Australia’s civil society representative to APEC on the economic participation of people with disability.
